ÁREAS DE ATUAÇÃO
Copyrights
The National Library has been responsible for registering intellectual works since 1898, when the first specific Brazilian law on copyright was published, and to this day, through the Copyright Office, it offers this service and other related services, for the legal security of moral and patrimonial rights of the author, under the provisions of law nº 9,610, of February 19, 1998.
The registration ensures greater legal certainty and avoid or facilitate the resolution of future judicial and extrajudicial disputes through public certification of the declaration of ownership of the intellectual work.
The service results in the settlement (registration) and publication of the legal information declared by the author/holder in the registration application, according to a copy of the intellectual work filed. Furthermore, the preservation of the copy of the registered intellectual work is guaranteed, for the duration of the patrimonial rights, for future consultation and reference, subject to restrictions on access to unpublished works, in consideration of the author’s moral rights.
Copyright protection is essential to guarantee the legal security of artwork creators and, therefore, is also part of our expertise.
