News | BRPTO hosts a meeting to discuss the International Patent Classification
The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) was chosen to host the ninth meeting of the Experts Group for Semiconductor Technology – EGST. This is the first time that the meeting is not held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Geneva, Switzerland.
The gathering occurs until October 27th and is attended by participants from different countries. The purpose is to discuss a new class in the International Patent Classification (IPC) focused on semiconductors. The project involves examination areas such as chemistry, electricity, and mechanics.
In 2020, the BRPTO proposed to hold the event in Brazil. Due to the pandemic, this was not possible, but the BRPTO led the online meeting.
This year, the suggestion to host the meeting in Brazil was accepted, given the importance of the BRPTO in the meetings of the Expert Committee and the IPC Working Group since 2004. Over the years, the Brazilian Institute has suggested more than 50 projects.
Patent classification is a search tool for retrieving patent documents and better understanding market trend statistics.
