INPI participates in the 22nd Plenary of the Brazil-United States Commercial Dialogue.

On September 19, the BPTO (Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office) participated in the 22nd Plenary of the Brazil-United States Commercial Dialogue, also known as MDIC-DOC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce-Services-U.S. Department of Commerce). The plenary took place in Alexandria, Virginia, near Washington, D.C., and as in previous years, aimed to discuss issues related to foreign trade in order to enhance commercial relations between the two countries.
As stated by the Vice President and Minister of MDIC, Geraldo Alckmin, in 2024, the United States and Brazil will celebrate 200 years of bilateral relations, with the United States being the primary destination for Brazilian industrial exports, including high-tech products.
Given that discussions on, intellectual property were one of the main themes of this year’s MDIC-DOC, alongside digital economy and sustainable development. The BPTO was represented by the head of the Bilateral Relations Division, Iloana Peyroton da Rocha.
This participation was marked by a focus on cooperation in the area of industrial property, between the BPTO and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Among the topics discussed were training activities and events, information exchange in areas such as IP management, examination efficiency, quality, educational programs, and the promotion of the IP ecosystem.
In addition to being part of the Brazilian group at the MDIC-DOC, the BPTO representative participated in a visit to the USPTO, learning about the office, initiatives involving artificial intelligence, and training actions for examiners and the external public, which demonstrates the strengthening of ties between the institutes.
